How to Cook Air Fryer Country Fried Steak

Alright so listen, cuntry fried steak and gravy is definitely not a diet friendly dish. However it is possible to cut some calories by cooking it in the Air Fryer! Best of all, it has the same great taste and you'll be blown away at how delicious this recipe is.

This is a recipe to have at least once a year. You know, for that time when you really need to address that craving for country fried steak! Air frying is a great way to fix those cravings and not feel as guilty! You dont have to be a Southerner to enjoy this amazing recipe. This classic comfort food recipe reminds most people what it was like growing up in Grandma's kitchen, with its crispy, hearty texture and creamy gravy. Country-fried steak is made with cube steaks, a tenderized cut of meat that makes a great weeknight dinner entrée.

And, don't forget the gravy! This creamy white sauce uses a little bit of your steak-infused cooking oil, a few simple seasonings, and milk.

 4 Cube Steak
 ½ cup Flour
 ½ tsp Garlic Powder
 ½ tsp Salt
 1 Egg
 ½ tbsp Cayenne or Slap Ya Mama seasoning OPTIONAL!!! Only if you want it spicy
Gravy
 4 slices bacon
 ¼ cup Flour
 2 cups 1% Milk
 ¼ tsp Salt
 ¼ tsp Black Pepper

Beat Egg. Mix together flour, garlic powder, salt, and (if you want spice) Cayenne pepper or Slap Ya Mama seasoning

Lightly salt and pepper steak on each side (1/8 teaspoon of each per side)

Dip Steak into Egg

Dip Steak into the flour mixture. Shake off excess flour and dip back into the egg, sprinkle on additional flour and place on Air Fryer

Cook at 360 degrees for 7 minutes. Flip over and cook for additional 10 minutes or until golden brown. Turn Air Fryer up to 390 degrees cook for additional 5 minutes
Serve with potatoes and Gravy.

-Do the following steps while the Steak is cooking Cut Bacon in small chunks
-Place in fry pan and cook bacon over medium heat
-Drain off all but a Tablespoon or so of the bacon grease
-Stir in the Flour and cook for 2 minutes
-Pour the milk into the flour and stir until lumps of flour dissolve. Simmer until gravy is thick.
-Add the salt and pepper. Taste to see if additional salt and pepper is needed

  1. I suggest to oil or spray oil on the air fryer wire basket. The coating on the bottom side (1st side) stuck to the wires, the entire side crust! Then when I flipped the cubed steak to cook the other side, the crust that was stuck to the bottom of the wire started to burn. Another thing is that this recipe does not account for the amount of time that the air fryer changes from 350 degrees to 390 degrees. By the time the fryer hit 390, the meat was nearly toasted! Did not need the extra 10 minutes of cooking at the end. Lost all the crust, meat was dry & tough on the edges. Not a good experience… gravy was a failure also. My husband said 499 of 500 meals you cook are delicious…

  2. I would have thought this would be good, but it was not the batter world not stick to the steak and then the steak burned
