In the mood for a delicious vegetarian craving? How about a tasty Falafel that you can prepare at home.
This Falafel recipe is easy, gluten-free, and naturally vegan! It’s packed with fresh herbs and flavor and you can prepare it in the oven, on the stove top, or with an air fryer!
Falafel is traditionally made by soaking dried chickpeas and mashing them with spices, garlic, and a few other simple add-ins. Shaped into balls or discs and deep fried, they are a great vegetarian option stuffed in a soft pita. Imagine stuffed in a pita or tossed on a salad and served with veggies and sauce, these crunchy little spiced nuggets have only one downside: The Deep Fryer. To get them perfectly crunchy, you need to fry these guys, which can involve a lot of clean up.
However, Falafel made in the air fryer are wonderfully crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Best of all, they taste like they’ve been deep fried.
Stuff them in a pita packed with veggies and tahini sauce for an easy, quick meal! You'll be the star at your friends or family's next gathering.
Place the Soaked Chickpeas, roughly chopped Onion, and Garlic into a large Food Processor. Process until the mixture is finely chopped, but not mush.
Next, add in the fresh Herbs, dried Spices, and Lemon Juice. Process again until well incorporated — the mixture should turn a bright green color.
Finally, add the Chickpea Flour and Tahini to the Food Processor, and pulse until well combined.
Transfer the Falafel mixture to a large bowl, and use your hands to form round balls using ~2 tbsp of the mixture.
Transfer the Falafel balls to the Air Fryer basket and Bake at 350F for 20 minutes. For extra crispy Falafel, spray the balls with some oil or a nonstick cooking spray before baking.
Serve as desired. The Falafel will dry out slightly in the fridge, but will keep well in a sealed container for up to 5 days.
